BIO
Chicago native, mezzo-soprano Olivia Gronenthal is a Performance Diploma student at Indiana University studying with Deanne Meek. This season, she is performing as Cendrillon in Cendrillon with the Trentino Music Festival and in the world premiere of Shulamit Ran and Charles Kondek's Anne Frank as Miep Gies with the Indiana University Opeara Theater. Previously, she made her IUOT debut as Suzy in Puccini's La Rondine. Previous roles include Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (Lyric Theatre at Illinois), Bianca in the Rape of Lucretia (Lyric Theatre at Illinois), the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte (Toronto Summer Opera Workshop), and the Third Spirit in Die Zauberflöte (Vancouver Summer Opera Workshop). With IU Opera Workshop, she was featured as Erika (Vanessa), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Bianca (The Rape of Lucretia), and Zerlina (Don Giovanni - cancelled due to COVID 19). Her opera chorus credits include L'Étoile, Little Women, Xerxes, Falstaff (Indiana University Opera Theater), Don Giovanni, and L’incoronazione di Poppea (Lyric Theatre at Illinois). An avid fan of new works, Gronenthal was a soloist for the Jacobs School of Music's Song Genesis Project (2020). This project paired composers and poets with singers to create new art song. Gronenthal also performed the role of Electricizer 3 in Elizabeth Gartman’s and Susan Bywater's New Motive Power (Kohler Performing Arts Center). She earned her Master of Music from Indiana University under the tutelage of Peter Volpe and her Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
